TRUMAN, Harry (1884 - 1972) 33rd President of the United States who led the country in the closing days of World War II and through the re-building of Europe under the Marshall Plan and the Korean War. Typed Letter Signed “Harry Truman” 1pp. quarto, on his personal stationary, January 20, 1958, with original transmittal envelope addressed to Richard Harwell of the Association of College & Reference Libraries, and reads in part: “...I am perfectly willing to have you publish the main features of the talk I made at the June 27, 1957, meeting of the American Library Association in Kansas City. I wish there were time for me to edit it, as we used to do in Congress. The form of an off-the-cuff speech is rarely proper for publication, but after looking over the transcript you sent me, which could be much improved by further re-working, I have decided to leave it to your judgement. The title you suggested is, I believe, more ungrammatical than my ordinary usage. Unfortunately, it seems impossible to correct it without the risk of parodying a certain popular modern novelist and her work on the egg...” Fine condition.
