A good early Tennessee slave reward document issued by Augustine Jenkins, 1p. folio, [c. 1800], Newport, East Tennessee, reading, in part: "Mr. Finley will please pay some attention to securing my Negro Charles…[and] if necessary have him secured in Lexington Jail…write me as soon as possible…I will deposit in the hands of Mr. Stephens…in Lexington fifteen dollars for any person that will put Charles the negroman in Lexington jail that I bought of A. Hunter…the fellow has a scar on his upper lip…". VG.
