Very rare Manuscript Document Signed by several influential men, 1pp. folio, Adams County, Mississippi, December 16, 1821, being "An Inquisition...before me Danl Greenleaf coroner ...over the body of a negro slave named Frank now lying dead on and at the plantation of James Moore. How and after what manner sd negro Frank came by his death. The following good and lawful men (viz) George Newman, Edwd T. Smith, Sheppard Taylor, Elijah Norman, Hez. Kibby, and Davd Collins being sworn as a jury of Inquest and being charged upon their oath to inquire and true return make, now and after what manner the sd negro Frank came by his death do say the sd negro Frank came to his death by inhuman treatment and severe punishment in stocks, starvation and lashes by the order and by the hand of William Wall, wherefore we the jurors aforementioned do upon our oaths present and says that the said William Wall not having the fear of God, nor the peace and dignity of this state before his eyes did at Sundry times from and after the 17th of November inhumanly treat and severely punish by stocks, starvation and lashes the said Negro Frank until Thursday morning the 13th when and at which time about 8 oclock in the morning at the place aforesd. the sd. Negro Frank died, and so the sd Wm. Wall did then and there feloniously cause the death of the sd Negro Frank against the peace and dignity of the state, and so we say all..." Fine condition.
