Print, page from Harper's Weekly, March 8, 1862, includes a 1/2 page engraving, "Execution of Gordon the Slave Trader, New York, February 21, 1862." Nathaniel Gordon (c. 1834-1862) was the only American slave trader to be tried, convicted, and executed "for being engaged in the Slave Trade" in accordance with the Piracy Law of 1820.
