War-date Union Document being an official copy by Frank Lovejoy, Adjutant, 3rd United States Colored Cavalry, 2pp. quarto, July 30, 1864, being a correspondence between General Dana and General Canby, in which Dana requests horses for the 3rd US Colored Cav., and reads in part " I have only to say that the Regiment is worthy your attention and effort. Their reputation as a fighting regt is better than any I have found. The officers are daring and dashing and major Cook who command them has a high name as a cavalry officer. I take extra liberty to bring them to your notice feeling that I did you and the country a service..." Fine condition.
