Original Press Photo, 8" x 10," of Boxing Champion Jack Johnson in the ring. The credits are included identifying the photo as a promotion for the US Treasury Department, raising money through selling war bonds. At the height of the Jim Crow era, Johnson became the first African American world heavyweight boxing champion (1908-1915). In a documentary about his life, Ken Burns notes, "for more than thirteen years, Jack Johnson was the most famous and the most notorious African-American on Earth."
