HANDY, William Christopher (1873-1958) was a blues composer and musician. He was widely known as the "Father of the Blues". Signed Presentation Sheet Music "W.C. Handy," on Music Sheet, "Saint Louis Blues." In full, "To Mr. Leruer, With compliments of the season, W.C.Handy, 1938." VG.Bessie Smith's January 14, 1925, Columbia Records recording of "St. Louis Blues" with Louis Armstrong is considered by many to be one of the finest recordings of the 1920s.
