HOLIDAY, Billie (born Eleanor Fagan), (1915-1959) was an American jazz singer and songwriter. Nicknamed "Lady Day" by her friend and musical partner Lester Young, Holiday had a seminal influence on jazz and pop singing. Her vocal style, strongly inspired by jazz instrumentalists, pioneered a new way of manipulating phrasing and tempo. Inscribed Signed Photograph, 8" x 8-3/4," minor loss of emulsion lower right. In full, "For Archie Moore, Stay Happy Always, Billie Holiday." The inscription is in gold ink, a bit difficult to read. VG.
