War-date Confederate Document Signed by Virginius Despeaux Groner (1836-1903) During the Civil War, he was the Colonel of the 61st Virginia Infantry, and was wounded at the battle of Chancellorsville. After the war ended, he returned to Norfolk where he became a shipping agent for Merchant and Miners Transfer Company and for the Inland and Seaboard Coasting Company. This document is 1pp. quarto, on Confederate States of America, War Department lettersheet, Richmond, Virginia, September 11, 1861, being an official copy of a commission for Joseph B. Cherry, as 1st Lieutenant and Adjutant, 8th North Carolina Regiment. Very good condition.
