War-date Confederate soldier's Autograph Letter Signed by J.M. Sweezy, Company I, 56th North Carolina Infantry, 2pp. folio, December 10, 1862, and reads in part: "...I have done my duty since the 14th day of September and I hope these few lines will find you all well...It seems like I have had more hard trials than anybody else, I heard of the deaths of brother George [34th NC killed at Ox Hill October 25, 1861] and brother Jeremiah [56th NC died of disease August 16, 1862 at Goldsboro] both dead, and Perry Martin's wife com and told me last week two of my children was dead, Jeremiah and Margaret all this most enough to break my heart but we must bear all this for we dont know how soon we will have to close our eyes in death. I have been very near it already myself...At present I am with the regiment again I have been in six hospitals since I was wounded, my wound is most well but I am weak in my back..." Fair condition.
