War-date Confederate soldier's Autograph Letter Signed "John J. Dupuy" Surgeon 15th Georgia Infantry, 3pp. octavo, Dalton, Georgia, January 25, 1864, pertaining to the settlement of the estate of his brother a member of the 154th Tennessee Regiment killed at the Battle of Murfreesboro, it reads in part: "..I desire to write you a few lines in regards to a claim you have against the estate of my brother A.P. Dupuy decd. I am sorry that his death should have produced any uneasiness about its payment as it seems from the note you wrote so soon after that sad occurrence. I am more sorry that it should have been written, at a time when the tenders feelings of the human hear were lacerated with grief. I have undertaken to council and advise our bereaved sister as best I could, about her business and I hope you will appreciate my neatness in writing this. In the last will and testament of my brother, he made ample provision for the liquidation and payment of all his debt, and set aside in each case what indebtedness to himself should be made to meet his several liabilities. These would have been settled long since if judicial proceedings had not been stopped by the emergencies of military law...Be assured my brother's name shall ever be honored; as he was just and upright in his life, in death, his name shall be respected, where ever justice demands. We have all to submit to inconveniences during this cruel war, and I hope you will not complain if you share our common fate.." Fine condition
