Confederate Document Signed by five individuals, 1pp. quarto and dated June 15, 1865, it reads in part: "...We the undersigned hereby agree and bind ourselves ___ the sum set opposite our names for the purpose of paying the expense of Capt. AWC Nowlin [Captain 24th Virginia Infy] to Washington City to make special application to the President and Secretary of War for the pardon and release of the soldiers from Carroll County, now held as prisoners of war, and if said sums so subscribed by us is not enough to pay said expenses then we bind ourselves to make up the deficiency, each one, his proper share or proportion...." Signed by Fielden L. Hale former Captain 29th Virginia Infy, John Wilkinson former Virginia Militia member, John Haymore former private 24th Virginia Infy, Abram Dehaven former private 24th Virginia Infy, and W.D. Mitchell former private 24th Virginia Infy. Good condition.
