Group of two war-date Union soldier Autograph Letters Signed by Walker V. Personius, 50th New York Engineers, includes: [1/14/1862] There is some prospect of our leaving here in the course of 10 or 15 days. We received orders yesterday to have all the companies drilled in the Pontoon drill this week as after this week we may be ordered off at any time...Gen. Butterfields brigade the one that we were formerly in is ordered to be in Baltimore Friday to embark for some place no one knows where...it will require some 200 teams to transport our pontoon bridges my company has been drilling...we took up a bridge of 45 in forty minutes and we laid it down again in one hour. That is fast work...[12/16/62]The news as to Sunday night from Fredericksburg is not so good as I wish it was. It seems from reports that our men have again found their match. If Burnside should get whipped on the Rappahannock I think they will call on McClellan again to defend Washington and drive the Rebels out of Maryland again. I hope no such disaster will befall our army as did under Gen. Pope..." Fine condition.
