Group of three war-date Union soldier Autograph Letters Signed by Walker V. Personius, 50th New York Engineers, dated November and December 1861, one on fine patriotic lettersheet, they read in part: "...[11/24/61] I would say that a Regiment occupies some 200 or more tents and they can all be taken down in five minutes and be put up in the same time, within fifteen minutes from an order to move there will be no signs of a camp...[12/10/61]I wrote to you about our moving to this place by an order from the War Department detailing us as Engineers. We came here it will be two weeks tomorrow, since which time we have been employed building work shops and a road along the bank of the river. We are going to build pontoons. There is one on the ground now that will be put across the river this week...[12/13/61]Our pickets are continuously set out but accomplish nothing. I have no sight to express my opinion while in the Army one thing I will say there is a clash somewhere between Radicals and conservatives. I hope this will turn into a war for the extermination of slavery as it will be an infringement on the constitution which guarantees to all states her rights as individual states, if certain military necessities are adopted as are proposed by some Abolitionists of the North..."
