Scarce newspaper, "The Pilot," Boston, August 3, 1861, August 10, 1861, and September 7, 1861. Each issue is 8pp., disbound, loose at spine, occasional edge tears.VG. In small part, [8/3] Front page, "THE BATTLE OF MANASSAS," detailed coverage of 1-1/2 pages; ... plus, [8/10] Full column report, "The Battle of Bull Run;" ... plus, [9/7] "The War, The Panic at Bull Run," three columns. The Pilot is the official newspaper of the Archdiocese of Boston and claims the title of "America's Oldest Catholic Newspaper", having been in continuous publication since its first issue on September 5, 1829. In 1838, Donohue became editor, and he maintained control of the newspaper until his death in 1891.
