War-date Union soldier's Autograph Letter Signed Franklin Tilton, 15th New Hampshire Infantry, 4pp. octavo, December 27, 1862, and reads in part: "...Arrived at New Orleans...it was pleasant sailing up the Mississippi River to see the oranges along the banks...to see the sugar cane and the most of all was to see the Niggers. It was interesting to see them some places there would be a dozen or fifteen at a place and I should think that were all of a bigness....Our officers we have a good captain, but our lieutenant we haint got none you know who it is I suppose Elbridge Wood, he dont know so much as a white bean, our second lieutenant has been promoted to one of General Banks aides..." Very good condition.
