War-date Union soldier's Autograph Letter Signed by Cornelius Van Houten, 1st New Jersey Light Artillery, 4pp. octavo, Camp Olden, October 14, 1861, with cover, it reads in part: "...I have not got my things yet, the Capt has been down and he says we will go to Washington on Wednesday or Saturday...our over coats will be here tomorrow. I am sorry you and mother can not see me before I go, but never mind I will try and be a good boy and do my duty to my Lord and my country...I was called on to guard a tent with a prisoner in. I am very sleepy this morning for I had to stay on guard one hour more than I ought to through the neglect of our corporal..." Fine condition.
