War-date Union soldier's Autograph Letter Signed by Henry A. Wiley, 104th New York Vols, 4pp. octavo, Near White Oak Church, Virginia, June 9, 1863, and reads in part: "...Whether we are to remain here much longer or not depends chiefly on the course the rebels pursue. Should they evacuate Fredericksburg we shall move after them, but should they remain where they are we shall do the same. The 11th Corps are engaged in throwing up earthworks along the line also near Gen. Hookers head quarters. Rifle pits have been dug. I hear that some very heavy siege guns have been sent down here from Washington. I do not see what use can be made of Siege guns here, yet the report may be true that they have been sent. All this Army seem in good spirits and are ready and anxious to again meet the rebels in battle. The news in the south west is not so encouraging as at first reported, yet I think that we shall succeed in taking Vicksburg and Pemberton's command with it. The city ought to be burnt to the ground or otherwise destroyed..." Very good condition.
