War-date Union soldier's Autograph Letter Signed by Henry A. Wiley, 104th NY Vols, 4pp. quarto, Catlett's Station, Virginia, May 15, 1862, and reads in part: "...My 1st Lieut is detached from the company and placed on Duryeas staff as aide de camp. The position is not a permanent one however. Gen. Duryea told him a man in New York is to have the position as soon as he arrives. His duties are to correspond for the newspapers, and keep our brigade before the public. The reason he was taken was because he had some experience in editing a newspaper and was in the habit of writing for the papers...The duties of an officer are hard if he attends to his business strictly, and the responsibility it great....Gen. Shields is forming a junction with us at Warrenton Junction, he is expected here every day..." Very good condition.
