War-date Union soldier's Autograph Letter Signed by Marshal P. Woods, 9th New Hampshire Infantry, 4pp. octavo, In camp near Sharpsburg, September 25, 1862, and reads in part: "...The rebels have all gone from here but do not know where they have gone to. We started them out of Md. pretty sudden, but we lost a good many men. I have been in two battles and come out safe and sound. I think the Lord has been very kind to me in preserving my life and health since I have been out here...we must trust in the Savior and do the best we can and we shall meet again somewhere if not on earth we shall in Heaven...the 6th Regt is in our Brigade and I see Thomas most every day and the rest of the boys. Howard Rand was shot in the last battle last Wednesday...the next morning after the Battle on Sunday (the first battle we had) I went down to a spring to fill my canteen...as I was standing there was some one stood right side of me...he looked at me a minute and then we grabbed hands pretty quick, for behold it was Ben P. Hunt. I tell you it was a happy meeting..." Fine condition.
