War-date Union soldier's Autograph Letter Signed by Marshal P. Woods, 9th New Hampshire Infantry, 4pp. octavo, South Antietam, In camp, September 28, 1862, and reads in part: "...I was in Battle on Sunday...The Battle on Wednesday is not in this paper but I wish it was. I will mark some of the picture so you will know which ones they be. That picture where we are charging on the enemy is our Regt. I expect for there was no other one that did. I tell you we made them run there, and so we have since...our side is whipping the rebels every where now, as near as we can find out, but there is so many reports in camp that we do not know what to believe. I saw a man that belongs in Co. A that has just come from Frederick City and he says that he has seen rebel prisoners and they say that they cannot hold out this winter any way, for they have not got anything to eat nor wear. They have got every body in the army and they have not planted anything this last season...they are all demoralized and sick of fighting and did not mean to fight any more. There was about 100 went by here yesterday that was going north somewhere. This man said also that there was 10,000 rebs that had laid down there arms and swore that they would not take up arms again - good for that (if it is true)..." Fine condition.
