War-date Union soldier's Autograph Letter Signed by Marshal P. Woods, 9th New Hampshire Infantry, 4pp. octavo, White Sulpher Springs, November 13, 1862, and reads in part: "...on Monday the big guns began to speak. We was ordered out and made towards the battle. We got most to them and we turned around and came back...our company was sent out as skirmishers and the rest of the Regt followed after us. The cavalry was a head of us and drove them back and we was behind them and in sight. We could see our cavalry fire at them. We followed up about a mile and the cavalry came back and said they had drove them about 2 or 3 miles and they was on the retreat as fast as they could go...I will tell you what Regts are in our Brigade. The 48th Pa, 2nd Mass, 7th RI, 6th NH and the 9th NH makes our brigade, which is the 1st Brigade, 2nd Division, General Sturgis Commands the Division and General Nagle (we pronounced it the same or Neggles) the 9th Army Corps..." Fine condition.
