War-date Union soldier’s Autograph Letter Signed by Marshal P. Woods, 9th New Hampshire Infantry, 4pp. octavo, Fredericksburg, Maryland, November 20, 1862, and reads in part: “...We are in camp now this side of the Rapphannock River. The city of Fredericksburg is the other side not more than a quarter of a mile. The rebel pickets are the other side of the river and our boys go to the river and joke with them. our Genls gave them so long to surrender it but do not know how long. About half past nine this morning our artillery commenced firing on them what the result will be I cannot tell. We shall take the city before we go any further I expect...I expect we are on our way to Richmond that is where our army is destined to...” Fine condition.
