War-date Union soldier’s Autograph Letter Signed by Marshal P. Woods, 9th New Hampshire Infantry, 6pp. octavo, on patriotic lettersheet, Arlington Heights, August 28, 1862, with cover, and reads in part: “...took the cars rode all night and got into Baltimore...the next morning we then left the cars and marched through the city right where the Mass boys was insulted, when they first began to come out here. But they do not act so now. They gave us a good dinner and then we took the cars agains and came to Washington...They are having a dreadful fight at Manassas, the rebels took it so it was reported last night and I have heard that we had taken it back again but am not certain it is so. They say Pope is behind them driving them right up here. I hope he is there is enough here to give them some. I should not think strange if we was in battle before many days...
