War-date Union soldiers Autograph Letters Signed by Thomas H.G. Smith and his brother W.F. Smith, on opposite sides of the same paper, dateline "Camp near Falmouth", Virginia, March 31, 1863, with Thomas writing in part: "...we have a nice time here, we have a game of ball or horse shoes so that we have to drill twice every day...the Rebels are leaving Fredericksburg if they do we will have to go over an give them a slight skirmishing with them and that will be all for they will not fight with out...the best ground...they have not got many men over there for we can see them a moving away every day..." and W.F. Smith concluding "...There is a talk that we will have no trouble in going to Richmond, the report says that the Rebels have evacuated, or are about to evacuate Fredericksburg. There is another report of the army taking transports and going tot he James River, thence to Richmond. There is a report that the Rebs are on half ration, and that they are getting tired of this war..." Fine condition.
