War-date Union soldier's mother's Autograph Letter Signed by Amelia West, to Reverend Wallen, Chaplain of the 174th Regiment New York Volunteers, 3pp. octavo, Havershaw, February 10, 1863, and reads in part: "... I write to you as the Chaplain of the Regiment in which I have a son viz. George West Co. C. Captain Miner his enlistment was unknown to me at the time or perhaps it would have been prevented for his health or mind certainly is far from well...he has been tenderly reared and I have no doubt the hardships of a soldiers life must be very great to him, he looses his clothes and in short he is not able to take care of himself. If you can in anyway assist him I shall be greatly obliged...” Fine condition.
