A good Civil War memorial entitled: "'More Than Conqueror,' or Memorials of Col. J. Howard Kitching Sixth New York Artillery, Army of the Potomac." 239 pages by James B. Kitching and published in 1873 by Hurd and Houghton, New York. The book details Kitching's entire military career and contains great passages on the battles his regiment fought including protecting Washington during the Gettysburg campaign, The Wilderness, Siege of Petersburg and Kitching's last battle Cedar Creek on October 19, 1864 where he was badly wounded in the foot. At the time of the battle he was already a brevet brigadier general, but that high office could not save him and he succumbed to his wounds on January 10, 1865. Ex-Commandery of the State of Illinois Mollus collection with their bookplate affixed to front inside cover. Original brown binding with slight edge wear and bumping. Nice tight spine, else VG
