War-date Union Document Signed by George Hazen Dana (1837-1917) Captain 32nd Massachusetts Infantry, brevetted lieutenant colonel, WIA at Gettysburg, 1pp. octavo, Vicksburg, Mississippi, September 9, 1864, being an extract of Special Orders No. 118 issued by Major General Dana, and reads "Mr. Richard Barnett and family being disloyal to the U.S. Government, are hereby ordered without the lines of the U.S. not to return during the war. This order is issued in retaliation for the banishment of Mr. Chas. Shepard and family by the Confederate authorities...The house now occupied by Mr. Barnett will be turned over to Mr. Shepard for the use of himself and family..." Fine condition.
