War-date Union imprint being General Orders No. 16, issued from the Headquarters of the District of Florida, Jacksonville, March 26, 1864, 1pp. octavo, by order of Brig General Seymour, and reads in part: "...The Brig. General Comd'g announces that on March 1st, the enemy advanced in largely superior force, with Cavalry, Artillery, and Infantry, upon our mounted force on outpost duty. This force of course withdrew, pursuant to explicit instructions from these Headquarters, but not without contesting the advance of the enemy, step by step, in the most gallant manner. Our casualties were one killed, four wounded, and five taken prisoners, while the enemy lost seven killed (including a captain) and more than thirty wounded..." with extended thanks to several officers for their roles. Very good condition.
