War-date Union imprint being General Orders No. 35, issued from the Headquarters of the District of Florida, Jacksonville, May 25, 1864, 1pp. octavo, by order of Brig General Gordon, and reads in part: “...Running or Galloping Horses in going to or from their watering place is not only cruelty to the animals, and abuse of Government property, a disgrace to the commander who permits it, but is positevely forbidden...Commanders of Posts and Provost Guards are hereby most emphatically ordered to arrest all persons found violating the above order...” With ink “Major H. Allen” 17th Connecticut, WIA at Gettysburg, at top. Fine condition.
