The month of July is dominated by the Trial and Execution of the Lincoln assassins. [7/1/1865] Full page illustration of the Military Commission with all members keyed; on the facing page, vignettes of the six conspirators. [7/8/1865] 1/2 page of the Exterior of the Old Penitentiary holding the conspirators. [7/22/1865] full page horizontal engraving, ""Execution of the Conspirators at Washington, July 7, 1865 -[Photographed by Gardner, Washington.]," shows the four hanging from the gallows.
