BARRY, William Farquhar (1818-1879) was a career officer in the United States Army, serving as an artillery commander during the Mexican-American War and Civil War. Autograph "William F. Barry Co. 2d Arty Bvt Major Genl. U.S.A." on small card. Fine condition....plus; GILMORE, John (1837-1922) Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. Served during the Civil War as Major of the 16th New York Volunteer Infantry. He was awarded the CMOH for his bravery at Salem Heights, Virginia during the Battle of Chancellorsville on May 3, 1863. His citation reads "Seized the colors of his regiment and gallantly rallied his men under a very severe fire". His Medal was issued on October 10, 1892. He would receive the brevet of Lieutenant Colonel, US Volunteers for "gallant and meritorious service". He was one of four 16th New York soldiers to be awarded the Medal of Honor for bravery during the War (the others being Private James Allen, Chaplain Francis B. Hall, and Corporal John H. Moffitt). After the end of the conflict he chose to remain in the United States Army, and served in the Western Frontier against the Indians. During the Spanish-American War he served as Chief of Staff to Lt. General Nelson A. Miles. Signature removed from Document "Jno. C. Gilmore Captain 24 Infty." Fine condition. (2 items)
