1862 $2 Confederate uncirculated note featuring the portrait of Judah Benjamin, Confederate cabinet member. Issued under the Act of February 17, 1864, this note features a portrait of Judah P. Benjamin in an oval along the right hand edge. Benjamin served the Confederacy as attorney general, secretary of war, and secretary of state in succession. Dominating the center of the note is the numerical denomination upon a geometric design, with the issuing authority and the financial obligation below. An attractive orange-red overprint covers the entire front, with the strength of the color being determined by the amount of ink available when the note was printed. Engraved and printed by Keatinge & Ball of Columbia, South Carolina, this note is hand numbered and hand signed in dark brown ink.
