Two issues of Frank Leslies Illustrated Newspaper, February 8, 1862 and February 22, 1862, complete, disbound. From the February 8th issue, from the interior is a 1/2 page engraving "Monticello, Formerly the Residence of Thomas Jefferson, Owned by Com. U.P. Levy, Lately Confiscated by the Rebels," shows Levy in uniform standing in front of Monticello. Unusual pagination, VG, ....plus, February 22nd issue, from the center spread, "Grand Presidential Party at the White House ...", shows Levy in uniform and his wife near President and Mrs. Lincoln. VG. In 1834 Levy purchased and began the restoration of Thomas Jefferson's estate, Monticello, near Charlottesville, Virginia. His donation of it to the United States Congress in 1862 was rejected due to the wartime crisis.
