VAN BUREN, Martin (1782 - 1862) Eighth President of the United States, Secretary of State and a close ally of Andrew Jackson. Autograph Note Signed "Ref to the Sec of War - MVB" on the address panel of a 2pp. letter written to "Martin Van Buren, President of the United States, Washington DC," July 11th, 1838. The letter is signed by 12 citizens who attest to the character of Abraham Dutcher and recommend his appointment as Lieutenant in the Army. VG
