Chest-up, slightly left facing CDV of Presidential Candidate Ulysses S. Grant, very boldly signed. Backmark, Henry Ulke, 278 Pennsylvania Avenue, Washington DC, 1868. Henry Ulke (1821-1910) was an American photographer and portrait painter, a personal friend of Abraham Lincoln, and at the time of the assassination the dying President was carried into the famous Tenth Street house, where Ulke was boarding. And in a another neat association, one of Ulke's best paintings is the Official White House portrait of President U.S. Grant done on March 2, 1875.
