ROUSSEAU, Lovell Harrison(1818-1869) was a major general in the United States and Union Armies during the American Civil War and a lawyer and politician in both Kentucky and Indiana. He served valiantly at the Battles of Shiloh, Stones River, Chickamauga, during the Tullahoma Campaign and movements around Chattanooga, Tennessee. Although from November 1863 until his resignation in November 1865, Rousseau had command of Nashville, Tennessee, he had also, on Sherman's orders, carried out a very successful raid on the Montgomery and West Point Railroad in July 1864. He is also well-known for beating Congressman Josiah Grinnel on the steps of the capitol building, after being insulted by him. NEILL, Thomas Hewson (18276-1885) a general in the American Civil War, serving in the Army of the Potomac in some of its most important campaigns. He commanded a brigade at Gettysburg which was place on the far right flank of the army's infantry line, on Wolf Hill. It engaged in skirmishing with the Confederates of Edward Johnson's division, which was engaged on Culp's Hill. Neill Avenue, on Wolf Hill, in the Gettysburg National Military Park is named for him. Discharge for Medal of Honor recipient Joseph L. Follett, 4th Cavalry, signed by General Lovell Rousseau and General Thomas Neill, 1pp. quarto, New Orleans, Louisiana, October 8, 1868. The 4th Cavalry at that time had been stationed and was actively engaged in quelling Indian uprisings along the Mexican border. Fine condition. Joseph Follet (1843-1907) enlisted as a private in Company G, 1st Missouri Infantry in September 1861. He served from through the entire war, being twice wounded in action [at Farmington, Miss. 5/9/62 & New Madrid, Missouri 3/2/62], serving under Generals Sherman, Pope, King and Steedman, and as a nineteen year old he was awarded the Medal of Honor at the Battle of Perryville, Kentucky, on October 8, 1862, after charging a battery. He later had extensive service during the Indian Wars era.
