A rare Confederate war-date Trans-Mississippi soldier's letter, 2pp. oblong 4to., written by Pvt. Allan A. Cameron, Co. C, 18th Texas Vols., "Camp Fork near Pine Bluff, Ark., March 4, 1863" reading, in part: ""…Capt. Tom [Thomas R. Bonner & John are in the same dilemma…El[Dred] Coleman & Dick Holmes got home safe…I hope and trust…my sweat little Maggie, Juddie & the negroes [are] all well and getting along finely…we hear so much rimors that but little attention is paid to most of it…today…4 deserters were condemned to be shot. Two of the Waterhouse regiment & two artillerymen. The general court martial is still in session…more will share the same fate…several are in jail at Rusk. I am glad they are caught…we could be sent to Vicksburg…subsistence is getting scarce here we will have to move from here soon on account of provisions. The war new is favorable to us as far as we hear. The northwest is in great confusion…we heard that Fitz Bill was sick near Shreveport on his way from Miss. with Pa's negroes…". Much more. VG
