The first letter of 16pp, Headquarters Co. D, 151st NYV, Catoctin Station Md, June 10, 1863, in part “ ... In the morning I went over and took a look at the bridge that Jackson burnt last fall. Four of his men were killed in destroying it. ... In the fight here last fall ... our men killed six hundred rebs. The soil is hard and they were buried very shallow. I saw the feet and arms of many of them uncovered ... We left in a hard rain ... stowed fifty in a car. Nineteen miles from the Ferry. ... We learned that the Rebs had been running all over the country, picking up horses & cattle ... They had captured a company of Ohio boys ... All this marching is what kills off our men ...” The second letter of 4pp, Camp in the near Brandy Station, Nov. 13, 1863, in part “Our Corps had some hard fighting, you will se by the papers, on reaching Kellys Ford. On the march .. our batteries shelled the Rebs from every hill and field of timbers ... It was fun to see them run. ... As to the election, it is all I hoped for and more too. I hear there is much fault finding by the Democrats and Copperheads in regard to soldiers coming home to vote. ... if we had all been there the victory would have been larger ...” Both come with original covers, VG.
