War-date Union soldier's Autograph Letter Signed by Ed Baird, 21st Ohio Infantry, 4pp. octavo, pencil, Jeffersonville, Indiana, November 2, 1863, with cover, and reads in part: "...They got tired of us in Nashville and they kicked us out. We got on the cars yesterday morning and got to Louisville before six oclock...went to the 'Soldiers Home'...we do not see any soldiers patrolling the streets and the darkies are so scarce. We are certainly on free sail and in a free country...Our hospital was crowded at Nashville ,and so many had the Typhoid Fever with pneumonia. It was all the nurses could do to keep them in bed. They were all the time talking. The surgeon said that a good many would die...It was a hard sight and I was glad to get away..." Fine.
