War-date retained military copy of a letter sent to Major General Hooker, Commanding Centre Grand Division, Army of the Potomac, 2pp. quarto, January 21, 1863, and reads “Your letter 17th inst. at hand. Major Yeamsans 1st New York Volunteers, is the legal officer and the Secretary of War directs that he be recognized. Please notify Major Clancey that he is not recognized as in the service. He should have satisfied himself before joining the Regiment of the Governor’s action in filling vacancy...” With endorsements of THOMAS MacCURDY VINCENT (1832-1909) Assistant in the Adjutant General’s Office, in charge of the Organization and Muster-out of the Volunteer Armies....plus; ORSON HENRY HART (1832-1872) AAG to Generals Sickles, French and Hooker...plus; JOSEPH DICKINSON (1830-1904) AAG General Hooker and Meade. Fine condition.
