Harper’s Weekly, November 12, 1864, complete and authentic newspaper, filled with war news and engravings,16pp., disbound. From the front page, “General Custer presenting Captured Battle Flags at the War Department, Washington,” with accompanying report. In part, “General Custer has been appointed Major General. ... One of the colors captured was the headquarters flag of the late rebel General Ramseur ... Ramseur was a classmate of Custer at west Point, and as the former was dying, the two reviewed together the reminiscence of their cadet life.” And a dramatic Nast vertical engraving “Election Day.” The front page has a repaired “dime size” hole, still lacking a bit of paper, else VG.
