Autograph Document Signed Pennsylvania Attorney General written by Joseph B. McKean (1764-1826) who served for eight years from 1800 as the attorney general of Pennsylvania. He was appointed associate judge of Philadelphia's district court eventually becoming president judge, 1p. with docketing, Bedford County, Pennsylvania, November, 1802. This statement reads in part: "….Elizabeth Cogan of Providence township…did commit fornication with a certain person so as aforesaid and unknown then and there to beget a Boston child on the body of her the same Elizabeth Cogan contrary to an Act of the General Assembly in such case made and provided, and against the peace and Dignity of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania." Joseph McKean (1764 - 1826), son of a Governor Thomas McKean, was deeply involved with the civic affairs of Philadelphia. Admitted to the bar in 1785, he was a trustee of the University of Pennsylvania, a captain of militia and a patron of the arts. This document has light browning on the edges and folds, else VG
