A complete and authentic issue of the New York Caucasian Day-Book, June 4, 1864, 8pp., never bound, untrimmed, weak at folds. This is a white supremacy publication which was suppressed on occasion by the Lincoln adminstration. In small example from page two, Shall There Be An Arnatice ?” we read in part, “... what an awful madness has gotten possession of the Northern mind, when two million of men have been hurled against the people of the South to force them to submitt to a doom so horrible ... In the fourteen so-called slave states there are eight million white people and four millions of negroes, or so-called slaves. These negroes are ..no part of the legal or political society, and guarded and cared for by their masters ... the simple fact that negroes increase and multiply more in the South than elsewhere is absolute proof of the naturalness of the social condition. ... Abraham Lincoln cannot crush the rebels, or exterminate the fighting population and therefore cannot establish ‘impartial freedon’ or amalgamation with the negroes of the South, and failing in this sublime object of mongrelizing American society, every lost life is a man murdered ...”
