A complete and authentic issue of the New York Tribune, October 21, 1868, 8pp., disbound, VG. From the interior, “The Ku-Klux Klan In South Carolina,” running nearly full column. In small part, “On the same day, a quiet unoffending negro, Johnson Panly, was shot dead in open daylight, on fair open around, without any quarrel. This murder was committed by some ona in a crowd of rowdy whites ... I saw boys hardly entered upon thier teens with a pistol in one pocket and a bottle of whisky in the other, damning the Radicals and threatening to shoot niggers .., then “"The Situation in Arkansas". In part, “The half has not been told. Hundreds-and I had almost said thousands-of poor, unoffending blacks, have been tied to trees, whipped unmercifully, and murdered.
