A complete and authentic issue of Frank Leslie’s Illustrated, July 24, 1869, 16pp., disbound. From the interior a 1/2 page engraving “The Virginia Election - Scene in Richmond - Colored Orator Addressing a Mass Meeting ...” An early and unusual illustration of the political organization of African Americans. Clearly the Black vote was a new force in Virginia politics, one causing concern to the two white men observing.
