A complete and authentic issue of the Frank Lelsie’s Illustrated, February 2, 1889. 16pp., a little dingy. From the cover, an illustration of a beaten man roped to a tree with caption, “The White Cap Outrages in Indiana - Scene After a Whipping.” There is an associated report on an interior page. The White Caps” were a vigilante group, operating primarily in southern Indiana in the late 19th century. hey lynched numerous people; in all recorded cases, the victims were either criminals or suspected criminals.
