Typed Letter Signed by "A. J. Clement, Jr.", one page on North Carolina Mutual Life Insurance letterhead, 4to, Charleston, South Carolina, July 15, 1947, to politician Thomas P. Stoney, Charleston, South Carolina…plus: Two copies of Stoney's undated reply. Clement, a black businessman, politician and activist, was distressed over Stoney's support of "separate but equal" segregation policies and said so frankly in his letter to his white counterpart. Stoney replied with equal candor that he is standing by his beliefs regardless of what the other thinks. Overall browning, good condition.
