Confederate officer's war-date letter by W. H. Brown, Adjutant & Inspector General, Army of Mississippi, Jackson, Mississippi, May 15, 1861, to Captain John W. Lyles, Sarepta, Mississippi, reading, "Neither officers or men are entitled to pay until they are ordered into active service. No member can be discharged from a company after being mustered into the service unless by order of the Governor Comm. in Chief." Stains, very good.
