War-date Confederate civilian letter signed "E. A. Crenshaw," 4pp., 8vo, n.p., March 20 (1862), hand-carried to Sue Bondurant, n. p., reading, in part, "…Willie was taken prisoner at Fort Donelson. We have not heard particularly from him since he was taken. So Anthony received a letter from Col. Head a few days a go requesting the friends of the prisoners to send them money to bring them home they will be released on parole of honor or by taking the oath not to take up arms again. I do hope they will take the oath and come home. It is said by everyone who was in the battle that we have heard speak of it that Carsons Company fought valiantly, never men fought as they did…they would not surrender until they were ordered to do so by their Superior officers…" Two holes, the larger one from seal breakage. Very good.
